Bruce Weissert

Bruce Weissert has been a member of the Pennsylvania Federation of Contest Judges for over 25 years. He received his B.S. in Music Education from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA in 1982.

After student teaching at Norwin High School, North Huntingdon, PA he served as brass instructor for the marching band for 11 seasons. (1982-83, 1987-90, 1993-97) During that time the Norwin Band was the 1982 Bands of America Grand National Champion and finished in the top ten 6 times at Grand Nationals. The band also performed on National Television in the Walt Disney Easter Parade,Orlando, Florida in 1996.

From January 1984 to June 1987 Mr. Weissert taught instrumental music at Waynesville Junior High School and was the Assistant Band Director at Tuscola High in Waynesville, NC.

In January of 1989 Bruce traveled to Surabaya, Indonesia to become the high brass instructor for Marching Band Sampoerna. He was an integral part of the instructional/design team that prepared the group for their appearance in the 1990 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, CA.

Since 1993 Mr. Weissert has worked full-time in human services assisting young adults with intellectual disabilities in the Greater Pittsburgh area while continuing to be very active in music education as a Private trumpet teacher, brass clinician and adjudicator.
